One of CIRA’s three pillars is Policy Engagement, to support policies that promote an open and trusted internet in Canada.

Canadians’ ability to make any use of the internet at all hinges on our ability to have access to the internet. Yet, we pay some of the highest rates in the world for internet access, particularly with regard to wireless access.

Do you think CIRA has a responsibility to advocate for legislative or regulatory changes that will increase citizens’ access to the internet, by lowering the cost of access? If so, what changes would you support?

While CIRA has no direct influence over the cost of access to the internet, I think it should continue to provide expertise and guidance on this topic. The internet needs to be affordable and accessible for all people in Canada.
